My Beginning - Kevin Cage

I grew up in Chicago. I never had that “mommy daddy money” to rely on. At a very young age I was forced to watch my father fight leukemia & being unable to work shortly after the 2008 financial crisis, I began to feel the stress of being the man of the house as the oldest sibling. I realized as a teenager that the “9-5 forty year grind” is no longer enough to be financially free, to travel, or live life on my own terms.

I began searching, and through reading, I learned that investing was the answer to achieving generational wealth. Every single billionaire is an investor of some kind. And the answer was something called the eighth wonder of the world… compounding interest.


I had this thought in college:
Some work 40 years at a 9-5 making $50k/year with the average age of retirement at 62…And the average life expectancy is ~78 years old. That means it takes 20 years to make $1 Million Dollars or 40 years for $2 Million.
And I was able to do that in 3-5 years.

I put the time, money, and effort into learning how to navigate the Web3 World. Trading in forex beforehand got me used to the volatility of crypto. “Where there’s volatility, there’s opportunity”. A Story I Call “MY $20 MILLION DOLLAR MISTAKE”

“This is an example of the volatility & what’s possible in crypto. I uploaded my first Terra LUNA video in Summer of 2020 when LUNA was at $.20 (twenty cents) and under a $50 Million Dollar Market Cap. Nobody knew about it. I purchased about $50,000 worth on Bitrue. It took a couple days to fill the order because liquidity was so low. My average buy was around $.20 to $.25, and I had over 200,000 LUNA tokens. I also want to give a big shoutout and thank you to MrLevelUp/Chris. We were all about LUNA & charting it in 2020. He was a huge contribution to my success, and I’ll never forget that.

You can see in the screenshot below that my LUNA balance was roughly 209,735 tokens in August of 2020. I had more tokens than in the below balance, but this the only screenshot I could find. I ended up selling out gradually, afraid of a crash and thinking that I was a genius. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I took my profits and put them into other alts and never really looked back at LUNA as the bull run began at the end of 2020.”

“Then LUNA ROCKETED to over $5 in Q1 of 2021. I thought I missed the big move. I also don’t like chasing an asset that just did another 1,000% move. I made some videos showing LUNA at $5 and regretted selling so low... I said I’m not buying it because it already pumped so much, and I’m focusing on the laggards (the assets that have yet to go parabolic).

However, LUNA ended up being one of the best performing crypto assets in history, going from $.12 in March 2020 to an all-time high price (ATH) of over $100 in April 2022. You’re damn right that I had FOMO LOL! But I never pulled the trigger to buy back.

I realized that if I just had held, my holdings would have been worth over $20,000,000 (20 Million) at the all-time high. Turning $50K into $20M is a 400X Return. It’s still crazy for me to imagine. That’s an example of some of the potential asymmetric returns in crypto.

But we all know how that ended. LUNA went from being one of the best performing crypto assets to one of the worst performing assets overnight… Terra ended up being nothing more than a giant, high-risk experiment that went too far (with TerraUSD, an algorithmic stablecoin).

So I could also make the argument that I saved myself from losing A LOT of money in LUNA too. I imagine the pain I would have felt losing millions of dollars overnight. My heart goes out to all those that were affected by the Terra collapse.

Either way, I’m grateful for the experience and continue to learn from my mistakes in this fast-moving space.
